Comment on Birth Control Myths Demystified by JD

Great post! Here are a few myths I've heard (and the truth, if I know it):

* Most birth control has an extremely high failure rate, so the only real protection is abstinence. For instance, every time you have sex with a condom you have a 30% chance of becoming pregnant.

This "statistic" is achieved by taking the worst failure rates for birth control -- the ones for people who don't follow the directions or use protection consistently -- and even then it's misinterpreted. The failure percentages tell you the chance you'll get pregnant over the course of an entire year, not every time you have sex.

* Wearing a condom greatly reduces a man's pleasure during sex

Like #8 above, more of an excuse than a myth. This may have been true in the 1940s and 50s, but with modern manufacturing techniques most condoms are so thin that a man can hardly tell its there.

* Certain non-prescription treatments prevent pregnancy/cause abortion. For example, douching with cola after having sex.

The famous "Coke douche" technique definitely does not work. There are some herbal supplements which are known to alter estrogen levels or slightly increase the risk of miscarriage, but none of them are very effective as birth control. If you want to avoid pregnancy, see your doctor.

* Condoms do not prevent STDs/STIs

Condoms are extremely effective in preventing bacterial STDs, but there is some evidence that "natural" (non-latex) condoms have pores large enough to allow HIV and other viral organisms to slip through. It's also been shown that condoms may not entirely prevent the transmission of genital herpes, but wearing one greatly reduces your risk. Obviously, wearing a condom also doesn't prevent the spread of pubic lice (aka crabs). I'd call this one partially true, but highly misleading.

Keep up the good work!

I personally like it but from everyone I've talked to, it really depends on the girl. I would say definitely don't do it the first time she is giving you a blow job. It was hard enough for her to decide to try something she thought was gross. You don't want to push too hard or she might not offer again. My recommendation is to let her explore the first time and talk to her while she does, tell her what feels good and what doesn't but don't be commanding. The better first experience she has, the more likely she is to enjoy it and do it again.

For beginners looking for information on how to safely do bondage I strongly recommend Showing You the Ropes and Back on the Ropes from The Two Knotty Boys along with Douglas Kent's books Land. The videos on TwistedMonk.com are also very good.

For information on how other people feel about rope there is a collection of essays by various authors called Ropes, Bondage, and Power edited by Lee Harrington. This book gives you an intimate look into how many rope Tops and a few rope bottoms view rope. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand people with a rope fetish better.
